How many sessions (instances) can I run per ASReml licence?

What is a session?

Sessions refer to the number of times our software can be opened and run simultaneously on a single machine per licence.  Each licence allows you to run 2 simultaneous sessions (instances) of ASReml-R or ASReml standalone. (This is increased to 4 sessions for cloud licences).

Running ASReml on more than one device

If you have installed ASReml on more than one personal device e.g. a work computer and personal laptop, you will need to ensure that ASReml is not running on the first device before trying to run ASReml on the second device. If you try to run ASReml on both devices simultaneously this will trigger error code -22 (All licenses in use).

Simultaneous use limits

These limits refer to the number of times the software can be run simultaneously on a single device, rather than the number of threads that can be used for parallel processing. In other words, the licensing limit is related to the number of times the software can be opened and run simultaneously.

Your overall licence count is shared between all users. For example, for a 5-count licence a single user could use all 5 licences (10 simultaneous sessions), or 5 users could each have 1 licence (2 simultaneous sessions per user).

It is worth noting that VSNi offer bespoke licensing for users and systems requiring high number of simultaneous sessions. We also offer Corporate Enterprise Solutions, both managed and On-Premise, for large companies wishing to take advantage of unrestricted access.
